April 1 – October 31, 2009 – Exhibition, “From the First Shot to the Gallows: Winchester’s Involvement with the John Brown Raid”

Description: Sponsored by the Winchester-Frederick County Historical Society, this  exhibit focuses on rare artifacts that tell the story of Winchester’s involvement with the John Brown raid. Free admission.

April 3 & 4, 2009 – “In the Footsteps of John Brown”

Description: A seminar and tour including talks and panels wtih scholars such as Dennis Frye and Ted Alexander. There will also be a bus tour visiting Brown sites including those in Franklin County, the Kennedy farm, Harpers Ferry and Charles Town.

April 18, 2009 – “A Prelude to History: The Wedding of Virginia Kennedy”

Description: Opening event for the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park John Brown Raid Sesquicentennial. A full day of programs and activities focusing on the arrival of Captain John Cook to Harpers Ferry and his subsequent marriage to Virginia Kennedy. Highlights include family & youth activities focusing on Harpers Ferry 1859 and a dramatic presentation entitled, “My Conspirator”, the life of Captain John Cook as told by his sister, Kate.
